On Saturday, 28/10/1430 A.H. a training course was conducted. It dealt with the development of skills among female employees associated with prisons. The course was organized by Naif Arab University in cooperation with the General Directorate of Prisons at the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Representatives of above-cited female employees participated in the course. The latter lasted during the period: 28/10 – 9/11/1430 A.H. This corresponds to 17 – 28/10/2009. It was held at Jeddah City.
This course sought to introduce participant female personnel on prisons as correctional institutions. As such, the latter represent as indispensable social institutions. Also, it introduced norms of United Nations towards treatment of prisoners. Further, it introduced humanistic approach towards prison inmates and Islamic morals. Participant female personnel were also introduced on the operative Saudi legislations regarding the operation of prisons in the Kingdom. Included in the course were details on the legal norms that deal with release of the prisoners and judicial-security supervision. Light was shed also on the rehabilitation programs in correctional institutions. Added to this dimension was an overview on security measures in female correctional institutions. Participant female trainees were also given orientation on the rights and duties of female prisoners in accordance with international covenants. Finally, the course included overview on the classification of female prisoners and the importance of applying pertinent UN norms.
The present course was organized by NAUSS in response to the request forwarded by the General Directorate of Prisons, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Other considerations were also implicit. Among such consideration is the recognition by NAUSS to translate into reality the religious values and cultural characteristics that are distinctive in the security mission carried by the Naif Arab University. Included among such considerations is the stress on forging cooperation among various institutions and agencies of pertinence. Last but not the least is the keen ambition of the University to build Arab security experts, on constant basis, through organizing multiple specialized security training courses. It is hoped that such courses will tend to refine the capabilities and talents of such trainees –––– males and females.
In conducting the present course, select experts and specialists were recruited.
